Global Raining

Well, an intrepid few of us headed out towards the open air Globe Theatre on the South Bank to see a production of Shakespeare’s A Merchant of Venice. Walking to Ealing Broadway we got drenched. Walking from St Paul’s across the river we got drenched. We were braced for a wet afternoon, but in fact we got into the theatre early enough to bag a spot against the seating barrier. Not only did we get something to lean on, but we didn’t even get wet when it did shower a bit later.

The play itself was ok (obviously — this is Shakespeare) but was a bit slow to start up, what with trying to work out all the Gratianos and Antonios and Bassanios. Once it got going though things got more exciting, and the final scene with the confusion over the rings and the false identities was played to much laughter from the crowd.

And we didn’t even get wet going home.
